Oneida County will have a new Sheriff by the end of the year. Sheriff Jeff Hoffman announced he will retire on Friday, December 14, after 38 years of service.

Sheriff Hoffman started his law enforcement career in December of 1974 and he was appointed to Sheriff in 2005. He was elected twice and is currently serving a term of office that ends in January of 2015.

Sheriff Hoffman stated “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the citizens for 38 years. Oneida County has had a tradition of strong law enforcement and providing good service to our citizens. I am proud of the current staff and their abilities. I am very confident that this will be a smooth transition and all members of my Office will step up and continue to provide the people of Oneida County with the high standards of public safety service that they are accustomed to.”

Sheriff Hoffman says he's looking forward to spending time with his family.
