According to a news release from the Shawano Country Sherriff's, a 50-year-old Shawano man is behind bars, arrested on charges of animal neglect, after authorities dozens of cattle are found dead.
It happened on Friday in the Town of Belle Plaine. Authorities say the department received a call from a citizen reporting a foul odor coming from a barn at a non-working farm. Deputies executed a search warrant and found 24 cattle dead in the barn.
The State Veterinarian was also called in from Madison as was the Shawano County Humane Officer.
The investigation into this incident continues, and more charges could be filed. The suspect's name is not being released at this time.
