A 24-year-old Athens woman killed in a crash Monday night near the Shawano – Brown County line had been with her fiance and was returning home after meeting with a pastor in Green Bay when their vehicle collided with a school bus.
Investigators say Shannon Leigh Hall of Athens, died at the scene of severe head trauma. She was a passenger in the car. The driver of the car, 27-year-old Justin Cyzan of Marathon, was taken to a Green Bay hospital with severe injuries.
The crash was reported around 9 p.m. Tuesday night at the intersection of Highway 29 and State Highway 159. The car was traveling west on Highway 29 when it struck the rear of the bus as it was crossing the highway while heading north, according to authorities.
The Pulaski School District bus was carrying 26 people including, 22 students from the Pulaski Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball teams. The team was coming home from a match at Seymour High School. Eight people on the bus were taken via ambulance to hospitals for their injuries. An additional five students were brought to hospitals by their parents.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports Highway 29 reopened around 1:55 a.m. Wednesday.
