Older voters look beyond Medicare, Social Security

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Get in line, Medicare and Social Security. Seniors, like just about everyone else, have money on their minds.

Seniors vote at a higher rate than any other age group, so they'll be a deciding factor in the presidential election. Seniors backed the Republican candidate in the last two presidential elections.

President Barack Obama has been pounding Republican Mitt Romney on Medicare and is gaining ground among seniors in Ohio and Florida.
Still, Romney has the edge nationally among seniors, largely due to concerns about Obama's handling of the economy.

Many seniors have had to bail out adult children who've lost their jobs. Retirees are at a loss to recover when the value of their investments and savings decline.

Both candidates are aggressively courting seniors but have focused primarily on entitlements.
