When you think of scenic riverfront cities, places like San Antonio, Pittsburgh, even Milwaukee come to mind. Now Wausau is one step closer to having it's riverfront property renovated.
Engineers unveiled a preliminary plan for 16 acres of land along the East bank of the Wisconsin River, at an open house at the Dudley Building in Wausau today.
The design includes a mix of recreational areas, public gathering spaces and expansive public access to the water.
Brad Lenz, the Wausau City Planner says the key to the entire design is connecting the missing portions of the River Edge Trail.
"We want connectivity from the riverfront to downtown. We want public access to the riverfront. Right now it's hard for the public to get down there. We want a nice place where people can go and enjoy the riverfront property", said Lenz.
Lenz says, the design is still in it's early stages, but construction on the trail is expected to begin later this year or early next year.
