Political ads have bombarded our television sets as we get closer and closer to election day. But newspaper endorsements of candidates are hit and miss this political season.
Endorsements by newspaper editorial boards tout certain candidates over others.
But this year, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is not running an endorsement, instead opting to "get out of the political endorsement business."
However, papers like the Wausau Daily Herald are. They have endorsed Barack Obama, Tommy Thompson, and Sean Duffy for the election.
Editors say it's not so much about encouraging voters, but a way for them to add in their two cents about why they think a candidate is fit to lead.
"It's more about adding some thoughts and perspectives to each of the races and each of the candidates," says Mark Treinen, an editor at the Daily Herald. He added that there were some places where they felt Mitt Romney was stronger than Obama, and where Tammy Baldwin was stronger than Thompson.
He says voters use many different pieces of information to make their decision on who to vote for.
