A state-wide battle over beer is brewing. A new proposal would let people make and serve beer outside their homes as well as transport it. Currently, brewers can't bring their beers to brew tasting competitions.
Area brewers think the proposal is a step in the right direction.
"From what I've seen it's very good for our community," says Karl Liebmann, owner of Bull Falls Home Brew Depot. "It's good for people with the hobby of making their own beer and wine. I think that people should be free to be able to express themselves that way if they want to."
He says competitions are about gaining feedback from others and learning, not making money.
Representatives with the Wisconsin Beer Distributors are concerned that there's no provision in the proposal to track how much beer a home brewer makes.
