New Training Increase Success Rate of Traumatic Injuries
Police departments have to know how to handle traumatic emergency situations. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department will serve as the pilot site for “Buddy Aid.”
A programs that gives officers basic combat medicine techniques used in combat overseas right here at home. And with firearms being purchased more often, this new equipment gives law enforcement another way to protect themselves and the community.
Lt. Kevin Schwartz with the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department says, “It’s just good to know we have another tool at our disposal to ensure we can go home.”
The kit includes scissors, duct tape, and two different tourniquets for stab wounds and gun shots. At a cost of roughly $100 a kit, funding for the programs comes from a department’s equipment budget. Officers will undergo training while on duty.
