New Sheriff to Make Jail Security Top Priority

Nearly a month and a half after Randy Hoenisch's resignation, Marathon County finally has a new sheriff.

Scott Parks was sworn in earlier today as sheriff. He will serve until at least January of 2015. He replaces Randy Hoenisch, who resigned back in March after it was discovered he had been spending little time in the office. Parks says his top priority upon taking office will be improving jail security. It is something he says the county has already began working on.

"We are looking at projects that are going to upgrade a number of our camera systems and matrix systems in the corrections facility so that we have even better coverage going back into the cell blocks." Parks said.

Sheriff Parks has been with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department since 1979. He most recently served as the Chief Deputy under from Sheriff Hoenisch. He was appointed to the job by Governor Walker yesterday.
