These days, kids are not always interested in the typical ways of staying active like sports. The YMCA helps us find some new ways for your kids to stay active all year long.
Samantha Mallo, Health and Wellness Director for the Woodson YMCA in Downtown Wausau, shares the patterns they've noticed in childrens fitness over recent years. She says that there has been a slight decline in sign ups for sports and increase in interest of alternative methods to staying fit.
Kids enjoy things like Wii Fit, or the new verson XBOX Connect, that makes children feel like they are just playing a game or compete with friends, but they are actually staying active while doing so.
Another new addition coming to the Woodson YMCA in late September is a rock wall. Climbing up a rock wall using a large amount of upper body strength and probably more fitness than kids realize. It's a fun and different way to keep children active.
Over the next few weeks we'll explore some new alternative ways to encourage your kids to stay fit.
