Fall has arrived and with it, the leaves change and cooler weather blows in. Autumn also marks the season for pumpkins, lots of them - even giant ones!
October 5th and 6th, you can check out huge pumpkins at the Nekoosa Giant Pumpkin Festival. The event runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday. Aside from awarding the largest pumpkins, vegetables and fruits, those who attend the festival can participate in a pumpkin pie eating contest and a pumpkin bake-off. There is fun for everyone in the family. Kids can decorate pumpkins, play games and ride carnival rides. Closing out the event each day is the giant pumpkin drop where you can watch one of the large pumpkins splat to the ground and take home a piece of it to remember this year's festival. All the fun is taking place at the Nekoosa Business Park located at the corner of Highway 173 and County Road G in Nekoosa. It's $3 to get in and kids under 10 are free. You can park on-site for $5 or take shuttle from the Nekoosa area schools for free.
