In the course of just over two weeks, one Wausau neighborhood has seen several incidents that have required police action.
Two of the incidents occurred at a home on the 1300 block of 5th Street, just one block from Franklin Elementary School.
Yesterday a fight occurred outside the home that led to one man being taken to the hospital. Earlier this month a drug bust also took place at the home resulting in an arrest on heroin charges.
The recent rise in crime has prompted parents and staff at Franklin Elementary School to use extra caution in keeping kids safe at the nearby school. During Thursday's fight, recess for the students was held indoors as a precautionary measure. Similar measures were taken during the earlier drug bust as well.
Franklin Elementary School Principal Jon Euting says they try to keep things as normal as possible for students, while still making sure they are safe.
"What we do is make sure our kids are always inside the building at all times and that people are not outside. Just be proactive about it keeping kids safe and secure and functioning as normally as possible." Euting says.
While their may have been a few recent incidents of crime, parents, staff, and police near Franklin say they will work together to ensure kids are safe.
