About 6:30 Sunday night, shots broke the silence in the small town of Westboro.

But, one man made an attempt through the chaos to not only rush to the aid of Deputy Chad Kowalczyk, but try and save his neighbor, Alexander Schneider from inflicting any more alleged carnage.

Monday, the Department of Justice and the Department of Criminal Investigation, sifting through some of the bullet shells left from the incident. Neighbor James Seng says he watched it all unfold.

Just steps from his property, James watched as Deputy Kowalczyk headed to the back of Schneider's home. 30 minutes later, James hear shots and saw the deputy run to his squad car while he was wounded.

"I called 9-1-1 because I knew the officer was hit. I thought he got hit twice."

James says after calling for help, he went back outside to check on the deputy, knowing his neighbor was armed and dangerous.

"I ran back outside and Alex was coming out the back door with a weapon. He jumped the deck, so I asked him what the hell he was doing. He told me to get out of here and to not get involved."

After a short man hunt, Schneider was arrested about 9 pm Sunday. Deputies say Schneider gave himself up without incident.
