The rebuilding of North Central Technical College's Center of Excellence for Public Safety building in Merrill is almost complete.
In April of last year, a tornado ripped through parts of the community, destroying the building. Now, the building is bigger than the old one, with extra classrooms and even a concrete-enclosed area that will be used for a shelter.
Bryce Kolpack, the Dean of the Public Safety Division says, "We are now standing in what was literally taken down to the concrete so all of the physical parts of the building were torn off, and we've had to rebuild from the concrete up."
NTC also had two fire trucks damaged in the Tornado. They've been fixed and modified. The Ladder and Burn Towers were also damaged and have been repaired. College leaders hope to open the building up to the public in about a month.
