Milwaukee Sets Record with 280 Days of No Snow

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- While parts of west-central Wisconsin were buried under a foot of snow overnight, Milwaukee set a record with its 280th straight day without measurable snowfall.

The National Weather Service last recorded snowfall there on March 4, when just under an inch fell.

The old record was 279 days, set in 1999. Milwaukee tied that record Saturday and beat it when Sunday ended with no snow.

Meteorologist J.J. Wood says there's a good chance to extend the record. He says the area isn't expected to see snow before the weekend.

He says Milwaukee got lucky because storms that might have hit it veered off to the north and west. But he says residents shouldn't infer that the whole winter will be mild. He says winter snowfall, as usual, will be unpredictable.
