MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee County officials have identified a man who died more than 12 years ago.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, no one knew the name of Oliveros Perdomo when he collapsed during an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Milwaukee in 2001.
For months, authorities tried to identify him. Police showed his morgue photo to people in the neighborhood where he was last seen. The same photo appeared in newspapers and on television.
Jenni Penn, an investigator for the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner, spent years connecting the dots along with other investigators until it all recently came together after looking through immigration, social security and funeral home records.
Last week, one of Perdomo's stepsons viewed morgue and immigration photos and confirmed his identity.
Perdomo died from a withdrawal seizure due to chronic alcoholism.
