A former Eagle River middle school teacher convicted of possessing child pornography will spend three years in prison and five years on extended supervision.

In November, Michael Wang, 47, reached a plea deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to two count of possessing child pornography. As result, eight similar charges were dismissed.

Police say Wang possessed more than 100 illegal images and videos, some with children that appear to be 10 years old or younger. Prosecutors also accuse him of engaging in sexual computer chats with a 14-year-old girl and performing a sexual act in front of her through a web camera.

Wang taught math at Northland Pines Middle School for more than 20 years. He resigned from the school district on May 23, 2011.

District officials turned over his school issued laptop and two flash drives to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office on May 6, 2011. The ensuing investigation led to Wang turning himself in to authorities.

Wang was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine during his sentencing hearing on January 2.
