Michael Wang
A longtime Eagle River middle school teacher is behind bars on accusations of possessing a large amount of child pornography.
A $20,000 cash bond has been set for 46 year old Michael Wang who is accused of possessing more than 100 illegal images and videos, some with children that appear to be 10 years old or younger.
Prosecutors also accuse him of engaging in sexual computer chats with a 14 year old girl and performing a sexual act in front of her through a web camera.
Wang has taught math at Northland Pines Middle School for more than 20 years.
"This is a person that you would not expect this type of behavior from. As I explained to my staff yesterday, this is like a person leading two separate lives", said Northland Pines District Administrator, Mike Richie.
District officials turned over his school issued laptop and 2 flash drives to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office on May 6th.
The ensuing investigation led to Wang turning himself in to authorities on Wednesday.
"It's a violation of public trust, everybody looks to teachers and other professionals to help keep kids safe, nurture and educate them and when that trust is violated people lose faith", said Vilas County Sheriff Frank Tomlanovich.
Offical charges against Wang are expected to be filed by the Vilas County District Attorney on Monday.
Wang currently lives in Crystal Falls, Michigan, about 50 miles from Eagle River.
