Two Merrill women have been sentenced in Federal Court for their roles in a heroin ring in Lincoln and Marathon Counties.

Prosecutors say Jennifer Roper, 48, and Leanna Wells, 32, distributed heroin from October 2010 to November 2011.

Roper was sentenced to one year in federal prison to be followed by three years supervised release, and a $1,649 fine. Wells was sentenced to seven months prison and three years supervised release for the distribution of heroin to an individual in Wausau on July 20, 2011.

Roper and Wells had been indicted by a grand jury on November 28, 2012, and both pleaded guilty in March.

The charges against Roper and Wells are the result of an investigation conducted by the Lincoln County Sheriff' s Department, Merrill Police Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation.
