A 23-year-old Merrill man is behind bars on a $50,000 cash bond after he's accused of attempting to have sex with a woman against her will, and holding her hostage.
August V. Marturano III is charged with false imprisonment, battery, strangulation, 2nd degree sexual assault, and intimidating a victim.
The alleged victim told police Marturano did stop during the assault and said he did not want to go back to jail, but then became upset again when she attempted to call a relative. She told police he placed her in a choke hold and slapped her across the face.
According to court documents, Marturano let the woman call a friend. Contact was then made with police.
Marturano was arrested a short time later.
He'll return to court on April 3 to learn if the case will head to trial.
