ORIGINAL STORY: 3/13 at 9:08 a.m.

Two men charged in the fatal heroin overdose death of a Marshfield woman are expected to face a jury Wednesday morning.

Justin Drinka, 22, of Marshfield and Trenton Blume, 23, of Unity are charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and are being held on cash bonds in the Wood County Jail.

Kayla Vanderwyst, 20, was found dead in her home on 808 E. 4th Street in August 20th. Six weeks after an autopsy was performed, investigators were notified that Vanderwyst had died of a heroin overdose.

According to the Marshfield Police Department, as investigators waited for autopsy results, they determined there was probable cause to make the arrests. Once results came in, Drinka and Blume were arrested, accused of providing or supplying the heroin that killed Vanderwyst.

Court records show that Drinka told a detective he knew Vanderwyst died of a heroin overdose and that he provided the drugs. They also show that Blume told police he drove the three to Wausau to pick up the drugs before her death, and that he paid for them.

If convicted, both men face 40 years in prison.
