Farm Technology Days is a three day event that showcases the latest innovations in the industry. This year two Portage County farms were selected to co-host.
Each year, counties statewide put in bids to host farm tech days. Once a county is selected, the search begins for a host farm. This year, two neighboring farms are co-hosting.
Dairy farming has been a tradition at the Feltz Family Farm for over 100 years. Ken Feltz tells us that his sons will be the fifth generation.
Ken Feltz and Wife Jackie are proud to be a farm family and proud to play an important role in bringing farm technology days to Portage County.
Pete Zakrezewski with Blue Top Farms, along with his brother-in-law and nephew, maintain the farm his parents own. Pete says this year, the two host farms are working together to bring something different to the annual event.
Portage County is not known for dairy, it's more well known for potatoes and vegetables. They will be able to highlight the potato harvest, green beans and sweet corn, as well as the dairy aspect to keep it diverse.
The planning began three years ago when the farms were chosen to host. They've had to rotate their crops to prepare fields for demonstrations, and set aside land for parking and the exhibit area, known as tent city.
The families say hosting gives them a whole new perspective on the event. Now attending Farm Technology Days the past few years, they did not just go for enjoyment, but also to see everything that goes into organizing before hosting their own.
