After a leak forced crews to drain it, plans are on track to refill McDill Pond in Portage County. The pond, which is located in Whiting, has been empty for months.
The Portage County community has been trying to raise enough money to reconstruct the pond. Thanks to a $60,000 donation from a community member, the pond is expected to reopen in the next few months.
Stevens Point Mayor, Andrew Halverson says,” In essence, this wonderful gift allows for the transformation of that dam to happen. It was a very important piece of this whole process."
Mayor Halverson says that with the refilling of the pond, property values around the dam will increase. He also says the recreational activities the pond offers, like fishing, also benefit the community. The pond is planned to be refilled this summer.
