Mayor Barrett Condemns Teen's Shooting Death

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is condemning the killing of a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly shot by a neighbor.
Barrett also is promising an investigation into how police treated the boy's mother after her son was gunned down last week.
Darius Simmons was fatally shot after taking out the garbage. Seventy-five-year-old John Spooner is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in Simmons' death.
Police say Spooner waited for them to arrive and told them he shot Simmons. But Bishop Tavis Grant, national field director for the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition, says police questioned Simmons' mother, Patricia Larry, for two hours and searched her home, while her son lay dead in the street
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports community members met Friday with the mayor.
