UPDATE: Marshfield Man who Punched Pregnant Woman Gets 6 Years

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) -- A Marshfield man who was convicted of dousing a pregnant woman with gasoline and punching her in the stomach several times has been sentenced to six years in prison.

A Daily Tribune Media report says 24-year-old Tyler S. Ress was sentenced Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Ress assaulted the woman in September 2012. The criminal complaint says he poured gasoline on the woman and held a lighter near her, threatening to set her on fire. The complaint says he also punched her repeatedly, telling her he wanted her to miscarry.

A message left with Ress' defense attorney Wednesday was not immediately returned.

Ress is currently in Waupun Correctional Institute for unrelated charges. His six-year sentence will begin after he finishes his current sentence, which will end in two to three years.

A 24-year-old man has pleaded no contest to 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, false imprisonment, and strangulation or suffocation during a plea deal with prosecutors.

In exchange for the pleas, four other charges were dismissed.

Ress was initially accused of holding a pregnant woman against her will and threatening to burn her and her unborn child. Ress is also accused of punching the the then 28-year-old woman in the stomach and was subsequently charged with attempted abortion. That charged was dismissed as part of his plea deal.

Ress is currently serving an unrelated sentence in the Dodge County Correction Facility. He's scheduled to be released in that conviction in August 2016.

Sentencing for the newest case is set for October 18.

A 23-year-old Marshfield accused of holding a pregnant woman against her will and threatening to burn her and her unborn child is set to enter a plea Monday in Wood County Court.

Tyler Ress is charged with false imprisonment, strangulation, recklessly endangering safety and attempted abortion.

Ress is also accused of dousing the victim with gasoline and punching her in the stomach multiple times.The victim also says the man tried to strangle her.

According to a press release, it happened at a home on East 21st Street in Marshfield on September 29.

Police say the 28-year-old victim tried to escape many times during a two to three hour time frame.

The victim was treated for minor injuries and released.
