Marshfield Factory Fire Prompts Quick Response

It took firefighters several hours to put out a blaze at a Marshfield factory over the weekend.

The fire started Saturday night at the Quality Ingredients Company. Flames could be seen billowing out of the top of the building. The damage is estimated at nearly $100,000. The majority of the damage was to the roof and processing equipment. The fire was so large, the Marshfield Fire Department had to call in all of its available reinforcements.

"After arriving on scene, the incident commander indicated that we needed a full alarm. Shortly after that because of the complexity and the size of the fire, we pulled what is called a box alarm. It included a response for all personnel off duty to respond." said Marshfield Fire Chief James Schmidt.

The factory where the fire occurred manufactures non-dairy creamer and other powdered milk products. No word yet on how the fire will affect the plant's operations.
