Marquette Freshman Ferguson Granted Release

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Marquette freshman forward Jamal Ferguson has been granted his release from the basketball program and plans to transfer.

Ferguson said in a statement Tuesday he hopes to find a school closer to his family and also hopes to get more playing time.

The Norfolk, Va., native appeared in 14 games off the bench for Marquette in 2012-13, his first season with the program. He averaged 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per outing.

Coach Buzz Williams says Ferguson has the team's complete support, and the Golden Eagles appreciate his contributions.
