In light of recent arrests, area health leaders believe the drug problem is bigger than ever.
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Partnership of Marathon County, says it's not just illegal drugs that are a concern, prescription drug abuse is also up.
A group of city and county officials, school administrators as well as concerned community members, met today to discuss the prescription drug problems in the community. New survey numbers show more teens and young adults are abusing the medications. They believe more community awareness is needed.
Coordinator of Drug Free Communities, Melissa Dotter says, “The goal of today is to spread awareness about medication abuse. Its a growing trend. It is a national epidemic and it is effecting us here locally as well."
Members hope to bring new programs into the schools, to support existing drug programs like DARE.
