A 27-year-old Wausau man police say is the suspect in an August 3 shooting at a Rothschild bar has been arrested near Chicago, Ill.
Rothschild police confirmed Saturday that Chicago police arrested Alex Hammoc around 2:45 Saturday morning. He was taken to Cook County Jail.
Rothschild police are waiting to see if he is facing any charges in Chicago before he can be taken back to Marathon County. Officers say that information and when he will be transfer will be worked out on Monday.
Hammoc is expected to be charged with 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery, possession of a firearm by a felon, and intentionally pointing a firearm at a person in Marathon County.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of P.J.’s Log Jam in Rothschild. Police say during the incident, one round from a handgun was discharged hitting a 25-year-old man in the thigh. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. Police are still investigating a motive.
Two people, Eugene Higgins, 21, and Aljerrek White, 17, are both charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer. They're free on $450 cash bonds.
