UPDATE: Police: Man Fell While Crossing Train Tracks, Hit and Killed

The Marshfield Police Department has released the name of a 62-year-old man hit and killed after he was attempting to cross the train tracks near Veterans Parkway and Vine Avenue. The accident happened around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police say a witness said the man, later identified as Melvin George Weis, was attempting to cross the tracks before the train came, but fell as he was doing so. The witness told police Weis appeared to be attempting to stand up and move out of the way of the train but was unable to do so before he was struck.

The witness told police the railroad gates had came down and the crossing lights were activated. Weis then walked around the gates and proceeded to cross the tracks.

Police say the man died at the scene.

One person has died after an train vs pedestrian accident.

According to the Marshfield News Herald, the accident happened around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday night at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Vine Street.

More information is expected to be released by the Police Department later today.
