A southern Wisconsin man is free on a $2,500 cash bond after he's charged in Lincoln County with offering a 15-year-old a $100 incentive to help find him a prostitute.
According to the teen cited in court documents, he was at a Tomahawk hotel when he says he was approached by a man asking if he knew any females over 18-years-old. The teen says that's when the man said he'd give him $100 to help him find a woman and $500 to the woman for sexual acts.
The teen said that's when he went through his phone contacts and contacted a 24-year-old woman asking her if she was interested in the deal. The woman contacted police resulting in the investigation.
The teen provided a description to police of what the man that contacted him looked like. Police found the man at the hotel. According to the criminal complaint, John Schmelzer, 53, admitted to offering the teen the money, but said he never said anything about giving $500 to the woman. Schmelzer, of Broadhead, said he was not aware the teen was only 15-years-old. Schmelzer was arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitutes and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The teen said he was not paid $100.
