A man charged with stealing more than $167,000 from the Wausau Area Builders Association when he was Executive Officer has pleaded not guilty.
Christopher Briquelet, 43, of Iola, reportedly took the money to support a substance abuse habit. Court documents said he began his employment in 2009 and was let go as result of an investigation in 2012.
The investigation began when WABA had checks returned for insufficient funds. Court document say that checking account typically had a cushion of $100,000.
The board initially said they would not press charges if Briquelet paid back the money.
Briquelet is free on $150,000 dollar signature bond. He'll return to court Sept. 9 for a clerical court appearance.
