Man, 43, Charged with Embezzling from Wausau Area Builders Association

The suspect in a Wausau embezzlement case said he took the money to support a substance abuse problem.

Christopher Briquelet, 43, of Iola, is accused of stealing more than $167,000 from the Wausau Area Builders Association when he was Executive Officer. Court documents said he began his employment in 2009 and was let go as result of an investigation in 2012.

The board initially said they would not press charges if Briquelet paid back the money.

The investigation began when WABA had checks returned for insufficient funds. Court document say that checking account typically had a cushion of $100,000.

Briquelet is free on $150,000 dollar signature bond.
