The Wood County Sheriff's Department says a 26-year-old man is in custody after a standoff Thursday night near Pittsville.
Investigators are recommending Randall Bakken be charged with recklessly endangering safety, operating a firearm while intoxicated, fleeing an officer and operating while intoxicated.
The initial call reported a man who attempted to shoot himself and the caller, and had fired a gun in the home.
Deputies say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle prior to their arrival.
Officers located the suspect on State Highway 54 near Swanson Road in Port Edwards. The suspect stopped the vehicle on Port Road near Seneca Road and held a gun to his head for more than one hour. According to a press release, the suspect made several sudden movements. Officer used less-lethal ammunition in an attempt to end the standoff, but suspect returned to his vehicle and fled.
The suspect stopped the vehicle again on Moore Road near County Road D and eventually surrendered.
No officer were injured as result of the stand off.
