Sheriff's Dept: Drunk Man Cited after Stopping to Help Deputy

A concerned motorist is expected to be charged with his first OWI after he's accused of being drunk when he stopped to offer a deputy some roadside assistance.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, a deputy was pulled over on the side of County Road K near US Highway 51, when a man drove past , but then turned around and pulled up behind the deputy.

The deputy got out his squad and walked to the man's car to find out why he stopped.

The driver explained he thought the deputy needed help so he stopped to check on him.

The deputy noted the smell of alcohol and asked the man to perform a field sobriety test. According to the sheriff's department, the man was unable to do so, and was placed under arrest.
