MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A 43-year-old man is dead after he was fatally shot by Madison police.
Dane County Sheriff's Lt. Charles Immel says Madison police were called to the man's condo building after sheriff's deputies were unsuccessful in serving the man with an eviction notice Friday morning. The man was believed to be armed with knives and a sword.
Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says police tried to persuade the man to come out peacefully throughout the day.
Police say the man came out around 9 p.m., brandishing a large sword and charged at officers. Officer first tried to stop him by firing non-lethal bean bag rounds.
Wisconsin State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/10bLOp5 ) multiple officers ended up firing multiple rounds at the man. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
