MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) -- Striking machinists at The Manitowoc Company vote Thursday on a settlement offer.
The company says a tentative agreement has been reached with the bargaining committee of the International Association of Machinists Local 516 on all issues. About 200 machinists went on strike Nov. 15. A main disagreement is the company's proposal to let Manitowoc Cranes machinists decide whether they want to be in the union.
WOMT radio reports the latest proposal gives returning machinists seven days to decide whether to pay union dues and that the company would continue to recognize Local 516 as the machinists' representative, not matter whether they're members or not.
The union turned down the company's latest proposal by a vote of 140-37 last Friday.
