Local transit authorities say Governor Walker's budget bill proposal may have another impact. They believe other publicly funded services - like Wausau's bus system - could be affected too.
Wausau's Metro Transit Director, Greg Seubert, says if the bill passes, they may have to shut down.
The city is receiving $1.3 million of federal funding this year. But Seubert says that funding requires they follow the government's labor protection rules, by maintaining collective bargaining rights.
That bargaining would be eliminated if Governor Walker's plan is passed.
And without federal funding, the Seubert says the city may no longer be able to afford Metro Transit.
"Federal funding accounts for about one-third of our annual budget and it would be very difficult for us to operate effectively if we were to lose one-third of our funding," Seubert says.
Seubert says Metro is a popular service in Wausau, providing up to 850 thousand rides each year. It's used mostly by students traveling to school.
