A historic building in downtown Merrill will likely soon face the wrecking ball.
The Lincoln House has been a fixture of the town for more than 100 years.
The city currently has the building up for sale for just $1. The catch is that anyone who buys it must have a plan to tear it down and build something new. The city's mayor says he does not want to see the building go, but it ultimately boils down to an issue of both a lack of interest from potential buyers as well as safety concerns.
"First and foremost, we wanted to save the building. Realizing that was not going to work out, we want to raze it and redevelop the site." said Mayor Bill Bialecki.
The mayor says they hope to attract either a retail or housing development to build on the current building site.
