Earlier this week the Marathon County Sheriff's Department received a call from a tow truck driver at BRB Automotive reporting what he believed to be a bizarre pattern of incidents. The driver got three calls in less than a week requesting tows for vehicles with left front tires that mysteriously fell off. All three of the drivers of the vehicles were women.
Dispatch sent an email to the entire department alerting them about the report in case similar calls came in. That email was then leaked from someone in the department to the public. The Sheriff's Department says the subject line on the leaked email was changed from "10-46," a code meaning disabled vehicle suspicious activity to something like "Women of Wausau Beware."
NewsChannel 7 spoke with the Sheriff's Department and the assured us that all three incidents were unrelated and no one is in danger. The Lieutenant we spoke to told us the email circulating contains incorrect facts. One being that the "shady characters" referred to in the email were actually with the women. The Sheriff's Department said they spoke with other local departments and no one has reported similar incidents. Since the email was leaked no other women have come forward saying this has happened to them.
Despite the Sheriff's Department's reassurance, the tow truck driver remains skeptical. He told NewsChannel 7 that he still thinks it's odd that three similar incidents would happen all within the same week. He added that he's never seen anything like it and he thinks it's highly unusual.
