With the holiday season now in full swing, it is a time when many of us hit the road to go visit family or maybe even head south to escape the winter cold for a few months. While this is something to look forward to, it is important to keep in mind that an unoccupied home can be a good target for burglars.
Fortunately, there are some relatively inexpensive steps you can take to help keep your home safe while you are away. While large scale burglar alarms are quite effective, some other alternatives exist that you can do yourself.
Ace Hardware in Weston has been busy with customers looking to purchase items like timers for indoor lights to give would-be thieves the impression that you are home. Ace says having good lighting serves multiple purposes.
"Not only is good for you when you are walking into the house to have some lights, it is also good at scaring away someone that is coming to the house. " says Ace Manager Ben Hoffman.
For anyone who will be away for an extended period of time, it is important to find someone to take care of your house for you while you are gone. Keeping grass mowed and driveways shoveled helps to make the home look as though someone is living there.
