As part of the Keep the Wreath Green campaign, many fire departments have used the event as a visual reminder in regards to fire safety. For every structure fire, a green bulb is replaced with a red one.
As the campaign comes to a close towards the first of the year, firefighters have tips on how to get rid of some of your Christmas decorations as well.
Deputy Chief Phil Rentmeester said, “Since Christmas has passed we like to remind everyone to check their tree, if its too dry and the needles are falling off of it, its probably time to get rid of it.”
As far as this year goes for the keep the Wreath Green Campaign, five fires resemble the five bulbs on the wreath this season.
