Every year our roadways are clogged with drivers from all over the country. If you are planning to be on the highways with them Thursday or Friday, WI State Patrol says you need to prepare for what's out on the road.
"Everybody wants to have a nice and enjoyable and fun weekend," Lieutenant Steve Krueger of the Wisconsin State Patrol said, "its not going to be fun if you don't get there."
It is one of the busies travel weekends of the year.
"Heavy traffic is expected especially on our North-South corridors," Krueger said.
Thanks to a cruel and cold mother nature, memorial day weekend's travel plans are a welcomed sight.
"This year may be unique in some ways, we had such a long winter and everybody is waiting for good weather," Krueger said, "and we're finally going to get it."
With the nice weather sending more people to the highways, Lieutenant Krueger of the Wisconsin State Patrol says there are things to keep in mind before heading out the door.
"You need to leave time, its the aggressive driving out there that really causes the problems," Krueger said, "so aggresive driving meaning their following too close, or people that are in such a hurry that they're speeding."
He says another issue that comes up on holiday weekends is when people decide to get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.
"There's easy solutions for that as well, the solution is if you're going to go somewhere and party," Kruger said, "don't drive, or if you do need to go somewhere, have a designated driver."
