A homicide trial is expected to begin in late June for a Crandon woman accused of running over and killing a three-year-old boy in September 2010.
Investigators say Shanice Stands, who was 17-years-old at the time of the crash, did not have a driver's license and had THC in her system when she was behind the wheel. According to court documents, Stands only had her learner's permit from Minnesota.
She's charged with homicide by negligent use of a vehicle, and homicide by a vehicle using a controlled substance.
According to the criminal complaint, Stands was backing out of driveway when she allegedly backed over the boy. He was transported to a Rhinelander hospital but died that evening due to his injuries.
Stands, now 21, is free on a $100,000 signature bond.
The three-day trial is expected to begin June 25.
