Jimmy Predicts Early Spring, Phil says 6 More Weeks of Winter

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) -- Sun Prairie's version of Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil is predicting an early spring.

Jimmy the Groundhog did not see his shadow Thursday morning in Sun Prairie. And, according to legend, that means that there will be an early spring this year. WISC-TV says the annual Groundhog Day event was held in Cannery Square in downtown Sun Prairie this year for the first time.

Jimmy's prognostication differs from Punxsutawney Phil. The Pennsylvania groundhog `predicts' six more weeks of winter.

What I would like to know, I keep hearing that highs are way above normal, even out in the forecast where its the mid 20's. Why is that "still well above the average". Back a few weeks ago when highs were around zero, its was 'something we could expect this time of year'? So ten or less degrees is way out of the normal, but twenty below the normal is something that is normal? And what is all this worry we didn't have winter anyways, I never heard all the concern when we missed a few summers in the last eight years!

  Right. Now with below normal to near normal temps not much of a big deal is made. But let the temps creep above normal for a day and it will be armegeddon!

Jimmy is right, we will have early spring for once in Wisconsin. Phil is right, PA. will have to endure six more weeks of winter.
