One the suspects in the death of a newborn girl in Eau Claire is now charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child because he's accused of impregnating the newborn's 15-year-old mother.

Larry Johnson, 48, was charged Friday in Eau Claire County Circuit Court. He remains behind bars on a $20,000 cash

There is also an investigation to determine if the newborn's mother played a role in the child's death. A forensic examination determined the newborn died of homicidal actions.

The criminal complaint, a court document based on statements from investigators, witnesses and the defendant, state the alleged sexual abuse against the infant's mother began when the girl was 11-years-old.

The relationship between the girl and the suspect has not yet been released.

Johnson will return to court on Sept. 10 for a preliminary hearing. That hearing will determine if there is enough evidence for his case to head to trial.

A 48-year-old Eau Claire man is behind bars on tentative charges of 1st degree sexual assault of a child and repeated sexual assault of the same child after an investigation into the death of a newborn on August 28.

Last month, Eau Claire Police responded to Sacred Heart Hospital for a report of a 15-year-old female presenting with complications from childbirth.

It was determined that the birth occurred at a home in Eau Claire.

The newborn was deceased.

According to WEAU-TV, during an investigation Eau Claire Police Detectives learned that the 15-year-old girl who had given birth to the newborn had been repeatedly sexually assaulted for several years.

A forensic examination of the deceased baby girl was conducted at the University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The forensic examination determined the newborn was near full term and born alive. It was also determined the infant died as a result of homicidal actions.

During an interview with Eau Claire Police Detectives, Larry Johnson admitted to having repeatedly sexually assaulted the 15-year-old female over the course of several years.

A petition has been filed in juvenile court regarding the 15-year-old female’s involvement in the homicide of the infant. The 15-year-old female is not being identified and the investigation into this matter continues.

The relationship between Johnson and the 15-year-old has not yet been released.

Larry Johnson is a conviction sex offender. He served time for a 1990 conviction of 1st degree sexual assault of a child in Winnebago County.
