Hunter Found Dead Identified as Langlade Co. Forestry Administrator

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department has identified a hunter who was found dead Saturday night near Gleason as Steve Jackson, 51, of Antigo.

Jackson, who heads the Langlade County Forestry and Recreation Department, was found unresponsive near Town Hall Road north of Dudley Road in the Town of Russell around 6:20 p.m.

First Responders arrived on the scene and took over CPR from an off duty Everest Metro Police officer, who was Jackson’s hunting companion. Rescue efforts were continued by Merrill Fire Department paramedics but he was pronounced dead at 7 pm.

The cause of Jackson's death is being investigated, foul play is not suspected.
