The Humane Society of Marathon County is full of pets, donated and even abandoned, which it caters to by supplying food, shots, water, shelter and much more. However, care like this doesn't come for free.

Because the humane society is a non-profit organization, they function off mostly donations and fundraiser events funded by local businesses and of course, community support. Humane Society Director Mary Kirlin says their upcoming event this Saturday is one of those events which allows for much of the animal care to exist; it's the Run For Their Lives race.

It's the second year in a row that the humane society is hosting the race. Registration on the day of the event takes place at 7:30 a.m.

Professional chip timing will be provided with two starts: 9 a.m. for the competitive start and 9:10 a.m. for the race with your dog. A kid fun run/walk will also take place for the first time this year at 10 a.m.

All participants will receive a Dri-fit performance long sleeved T and a bag of goodies as a complimentary gift from the sponsors who've helped organize the race.

For more information, you can visit the humane society's web site at www.catsndogs.org.
