MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A newspaper report says an aide to state Rep. Brett Hulsey told police last month she feared for her safety because of his behavior.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Hulsey once brought a box cutter to the state Capitol and considered bringing a gun -- even though he doesn't have a concealed-weapons permit.

The newspaper reports Hulsey had urged the aide to train for self-defense with him. A Capitol Police report from Feb. 17 includes an email from the aide in which she wrote that she was "terrified."

Hulsey acknowledged bringing the box cutter to the statehouse and considering bringing in a gun. He says he was trying to highlight Republican weapons and security policies he opposes.

The Madison Democrat stressed he had no intention of harming his aide.
