Housing and Homeless Coalition Growing by the Day

On this United Way Wednesday, we're focusing on the United Way's newest iniative, the Housing and Homelessness Coalition. It began in August of 2012 after ground work was laid by United Way Community Impact Teams and other key community stakeholders, LIFE Report, and Marathon County's 2-1-1 Unmet Needs report. They are comprised of 25 organizations who have come together with the intention to eradicate homelessness and find housing solutions for residents in Marathon County.

Christine Ellis stopped by Sunrise 7 to tell us all about their efforts and why they need you to get involved and volunteer.
Both the Warming Center and the Point-In-Time Count are immediate volunteer opportunities. Each opportunity offers an hour long training session. Dates and times are as follows:

Warming Center:
· Wednesday, January 23, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
· Thursday, January 24, 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Location: Wausau Community Warming Center, 319 N. 4th Street, Lower Level Warming Center

Point-In-Time Count:
o January 24 - Noon to 1:00 PM
Location: St. Paul Community Center Building, 319 N. 4th Street, conference room
o January 28 -5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Location: St. Paul Community Center Building, 319 N. 4th Street, conference room

Log on to the United Way's website: United Way Marathon County and on the left click, "Volunteer Connection" and sign-up for a shift or multiple shifts there.
