(Press Release) Wausau -- For a few days this week, power tools will be humming at the Marathon County Fairgrounds on Stewart Avenue in Wausau. Over 300 men and women who make a career of improving the energy efficiency of housing for low-income families will meet in Wausau to enhance their skills and learn from each other.
Participants in the Technical Exchange Fair and Crew Competition work in the Home Energy Plus Weatherization Assistance Program. The program uses federal and state funds, and last year weatherized the homes of more than 13,885 low-income Wisconsin residents.
What will all of these weatherization workers be doing at the fairgrounds this week? The event comes down to learning from each other by sharing skills they have developed through hands-on work. The technologies and diagnostic procedures developed and used in the program are some of the most advanced in the home improvement industry. Participants will view demonstrations and try new ways of doing things. They will compete against field crews from all over the state to measure their skills and improve the quality of their work. Competitions include sidewall insulation and attic bypass sealing.
Households with incomes at or below 60 percent of the state’s median income may qualify for weatherization services. Families interested in the weatherization program should refer to the following income guidelines.
